Service Description

(Previously known as Shipyard Safety Instruction Course For Workers (General Trade) -SSIC-GT) Legal Requirement The Workplace Safety and Health (Shipbuilding and Ship-repairing) Regulations 2008 Reg. 6 (2) stipulates that “It shall be the duty of every person not to carry out any hazardous work in a shipyard or on board a ship in a harbour unless he has undergone a safety and health training course approved by the Commissioner for Workplace Safety and Health.” For Whom The AWSHS is a mandatory WSH training course for all workers working in the shipbuilding and ship repairing industry. Assumed Attitude, Skills and Knowledge / Entry Requirement Participant must be able to read, write and speak in the language in which the course is conducted. Course Overview Understand legal obligations in workplace safety and health. Identify hazards in a shipyard. Recognize all types of industrial safety signs. Understand application process for safety permit prior to hot work. Competent in wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Know and take safety precautions when working with different hazards. Able to respond in case of fire or emergency. Course Content Legal Obligations. Fire and Explosion Hazards. Prevention of Fires & Explosions. Preventive Measures for Specialized Operations. Preventive Measures for Material Handling. Preventive Measures for Mechanical and Electrical Works. Preventive Measures for Working in at Height. Preventive Measures for Working in Confined Space. Personal Protective Equipment. Course Duration: 8 hours including 1 hours of assessment Medium of Instruction: English, Mandarin, Tamil, Teaching Methodology: Face to Face class room teaching The following blended learning methods are applied to maximize the learning outcome for the course: Safety Signage Identify hazards from given digital photo MCQ for self-assessment Learning Environment: Our ergonomically designed class rooms are fully air-conditioned, equipped with white boards; audio/video equipment’s and free wi-fi .
